Winner of the prestigious A' Design Award in Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design Category, the Origami Rose by Joyce (Mei Kam) Chan is a multifunctional table that serves many purposes.Designed for the compact spaces, the Origami Rose uses interlocking techniques and varying plane heights to serve three different functions – a side/bedside table, a desk and a bookshelf. The opening at the center of the Origami Rose table can accommodate a floor lamp.
The origami inspired table has been made using one sheet of 4 x 8 ft.plywood, which was cut by a CNC machine. Each cut piece was sanded, treated with three layers of Tung oil and then finished with a layer of paste wax.The assembly process involves no hardware and relies on the use of joinery and glue.Serving a range of functions, the Origami Rose table seems a perfect fit in the urban apartments where space has always been a premium.
